[texpoint-users] TexPoint Tex2bmp, Path Configuration & Installation Problem

Hello George/Andreas;

Thank you for your suggestions. Rather than adding by hand the correct
directory of latex.exe and gswin32.exe in the PATH itself, I kept adding
them as system variables and provided the path to their directory in the
values! It suddenly hit me that I should add the values in the PATH itself,
separated by semi column etc.. As soon as I did that, TexPoint was running
like a breeze!!

Now I run into another problem when trying to install TexPoint into my other
computer at home. I solved the problem but I want to share with you what
happened anyways, hopefully this would serve as tip to someone who might run
into similar situation:

Installation of TeXPoint 2.11.2 immediately failed kept getting the error
bellow no matter how many times I rebooted / logged off / disabled antivirus
/ disabled firewall / or set all IE 7 scripting and security to either
enable or prompt:

2.12.1

CUSTOM ACTION SCRIPT "CAprepaddin" COULDN'T START. ERROR -2147221285,

CaMkObject(): Failed loading the automation class "WScript.Shell".

Reason 0x1aD -Active component can't create object LINE 738, COLUMN1,

So I tried with TexPoint 2.0.3! Similar error occurred, it reads:

CUSTOM ACTION "CAprepaddin" FAILED. Script ERROR -2146827859,

Microsoft VBScript runtime error: ActiveX component can't create

object: 'WScript.shell' LINE 354, COLUMN 14,

then Installation windows would read:

TexPoint 2.X.X Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error.

your system has not been modified. To install the program at a

later time, please run the installation again.

I wasn't sure what version number was my WSH, I decided to update to the
latest of Microsoft Windows Script 5.6 from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/scripting , was prompted to reboot, which I did
with finger crossed, started again the installation of TexPoint 2.11.2, and
this time the installation went like charm! Updated my PATH again, TexPoint
is up and running!!

Thank you very much TexPoint team!

Look in the manual under the installation instructions for how to set the
PATH environment variable on Windows:

After you install Miktex make sure that miktex\bin in in your PATH (this
is in Control Panel/System/Advanced/Environment).

Note that gswin32 must also be added to the PATH.

Once you do that you might have to restart PPT and then try again the
Configure panel. You should see that all commands that are now
"not found" will report a version number.

 George.

Subject: Tex2bmp, Internal or External Command, Path & Configuration

Hello George;

I successfully registered my copy of TexPoint, thank you. As before when
using the demo, when I try to Make Display under Bitmap, I get the following
error:

Tex2bmp: error while running <latex>

Press cancel or finish later to exit PowerPoint

Pressing ok brings up the following log:

*** Output of command latex "TP_tmp.tex" is (error code 0)

C:\Documents and Settings\Bachri\Desktop\PhD Qualifying Exam>latex
"TP_tmp.tex"

'latex' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

operable program or batch file.

The exit code of command was 1

I do have MikTeX, winedt, as well as ghostscript 8.51 and ghostview
installed, all installed in the default directory under C\ Program Files.

In your forum there's something about the making sure the Path is correct,
but how do change the path etc..

Anything you can say to get TexPoint up and running will be very
appreciated.

Bachri
